The Puerto Rico Animal Welfare Society's (PAWS) mission is to reduce the number of homeless and abandoned companion animals in the northwest corner of Puerto Rico by:

SPAYING AND NEUTERING
Our first priority is to reduce the number of unwanted births. Sterilizing
your pet is one of the best ways to help combat the homeless animal problem and the needless suffering and killing of innocent animals whose only "crime" was to have been born.
PAWS makes spaying and neutering services affordable for those who might not otherwise be able to afford the costs to spay or neuter their pets. We partner with the Pet Vet - a high volume/ high quality/ low cost spay and neuter clinic. They offer PAWS the lowest available price for these surgeries. We ask owners or rescuers to pay what they can and we pay the rest.
ADOPTIONS/HELPING STRAYS
PAWS helps with the cost to spay or neuter dogs and cats rescued from the street. We help to find them homes through:

The Pet Vet clinic

Advertising pets for adoption on Facebook and on this Website

Adoption Days two Saturdays a month at Petco in Aguadilla.
PAWS only adopts out animals that are spayed or neutered. We do not have facilities to house stray animals. Rescuers must foster the animal until a home is found.
SPAY & RELEASE
We will pay part or all of the cost to spay a stray female that is surviving on her own on the street. She is put back in her established area but she will not produce litter after litter of pups or kittens. This program has been very viable and helped to vastly reduce the nuber of homeless pets in our area.
EDUCATION
Educating people about the importance of spaying or neutering their pets and about proper care of animals is critically important to fulfill the PAWS mission.
PAWS does this through:

Distributing educational materials with every adopted animal

Visits to local schools to teach the children proper pet care and the importance of spaying and neutering their pets.
Dogs of the Week
This is Ben, a shar pei/lab mix. He is about 18 lbs (medium sized) and super friendly with people and other dogs alike. He has been fully vaccinated to date and neutered.
Este es Ben, un mixto de Shar Pei y Labrador. Él es cerca de 18 libras (de tamaño mediano) y muy amistoso con la gente y otros perros igualmente. Ha sido completamente vacunado y estan castrado.

HSI Funds for PAWS!
The Humane Society International has generously given us a grant to be used to spay/neuter dogs from the municipality of Aguadilla. All owners or rescuers can have dogs sterilized for only $39, and cats for $30; HSI will pay the rest! Thank you, HSI!

With donations and the help of HSI, we were able to spay/neuter 2,645 cats and dogs this year and with the help of Petco and other organizations in PR and the U.S. (after the hurricane) we found homes for 470 cats and dogs. We are counting on community support to continue our work.
